BonAppétit is the project that, together with my group, I worked on throughout 2017-2018.
What is it?
BonAppétit is a simple and innovative management system for bars and restaurants. Our system adapts to venues of any size: from the small bar to the renowned restaurant.

What’s innovative about it?
BonAppétit’s goal is to improve the businesses it’s installed in. Through Machine Learning and AI algorithms it learns about the business and its customers, and ends up giving the owner suggestions about possible improvements.
We want to bring the technology of 2018, made of Machine Learning and AI, to the restaurant industry. We think more can be done, we want to do more, we do more.
Our awards
We came first in the regional competition, across Lombardy and Veneto, of Imprese in Azione (a national student-enterprise competition).

At the national Imprese in Azione competition we won the award for best business plan. At school we managed to take second place in the Antonio Riva award, which recognises the best projects.
The components
The backend
We built the backend in PHP using the Symfony framework. The backend handles all the table orders, receipt printing and the restaurant menu. The backend also talks to the app, providing it with the venue’s menu.

The website
The website manages the app’s users, backups and data collection from the individual installations. It’s also written in PHP with Symfony.

The app
The app was developed in React and lets customers of affiliated restaurants order directly from their table, without waiting for the waiter to arrive. It also lets them pay directly with PayPal or by card.

The frontend
The admin frontend was developed in React and lets waiters take orders at the tables and lets the owner manage the venue’s menu and view the suggestions calculated with Machine Learning and AI.
